
Emil Zsigmondy, according to in Hungarian usual sequence Zsigmondy Emil was an Austrian Hungarian doctor, mountaineer. His brothers were Nobel laureate Richard Adolf Zsigmondy, Karl Zsigmondy, Otto Zsigmondy.

Emil Zsigmondy was born on August 11, 1861 in Vienna . He died on 6 August 1885 in France in Saint-Christophe-en-Oisans .
Emil Zsigmondy’s parents were Hungarians who moved to Vienna, where Emil was born. He obtained a medical degree in his hometown in 1884 , less than a year before his death. He began mountaineering as a teenager, climbing the Reiseck in Austria on a 26-hour lap with his brother Otto Zsigmondy . Both brothers climbed without guides in the Zillertal Alps. In 1881 they climbed the Ortler of the Hochjoch.

Emil Zsigmondy was the friend and companion of Ludwig Purtscheller, the great pioneer of the unguided Alpine climbing. Emil has reached almost 100 mountain peaks in the Alps, which are higher than 3000 m. He was the first to reach the summit of Croda da Lago (in 1884).
