On Wednesday, October 17, the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia announced the involvement of ex-President Mikhail Saakashvili in the death of billionaire Badri Patrakatsishvili. On suspicion of participation in the preparation of the murder, several high-ranking officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia were detained.
It is noted that during a search of the house, one of the suspected Georgian law enforcement officers found two audio recordings dated February 2007. On the first record, one of the detained employees of the Georgian Interior Ministry is trying to persuade one of the guards Patrakatsishvili to take part in the murder of a businessman, and during the conversation the official noted that Mikhail Saakashvili had sanctioned the murder because Patrakatsishvili was his political opponent at that time. The second audio recording contains a conversation between Georgian officials arrested on suspicion of murder. During the conversation, they discussed various aspects of the murder, including the method of eliminating Patrakatsishvili.
Suspects face from 16 to 20 years in prison.
Badri Patrakatsishvili died in 2008 in his villa in the UK. Doctors said that the cause of death of Boris Berezovsky’s business partner was coronary heart disease. A few months before his death, Patrakatsishvili founded a political party, opposition to the then Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, and also put forward his candidacy for the election of the President of Georgia
