On Sunday, a group of radical settlers, with the support of the Israeli security forces, broke into the Al-Aqsa Mosque to arrange a demonstration procession timed to commemorate the anniversary of the seizure of Jerusalem in 1967, reports Al-Jazeera.
In the last decade of the month of Ramadan, a large number of Muslims are in Al-Aqsa in a state of Itikaf (canonical solitude in a mosque). Inside the temple, visitors provoked a conflict with the worshipers, in which armed security forces intervened.
Reporter Samir Abu Shamal reported that 1,100 Jewish settlers took part in the attack on the mosque. The police used tear gas and rubber bullets on the territory of the mosque to disperse Muslim protesters. Dozens of people were injured as a result of the attack, including several women.
