The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, ordered from the end of November to allow homeless women to spend the night in the Hotel de Ville, where the city administration is located. This was the head of the metropolitan municipality told in an interview with the Journal du Dimanche.
Hidalgo called for a “general mobilization” to save the homeless, who lacked accommodation in Paris. According to her, there are at least three thousand such people in the capital.
“Pending the start of work, you can use the free buildings. We will also provide municipal centers. In this sense, the Hotel de Ville in Paris should set an example, show that it is possible to shelter the homeless everywhere, including the Palace of the Republic, ”the mayor said.
She noted that women can get hot meals during the day at the Hotel de Ville, and a bedroom with beds and a sanitary zone will be organized on the first floor for the night.
Hidalgo decided to take such measures after four people died of cold in France last winter.
