According to reports, in May this year, Microsoft suspended the placement of advertising content on Facebook and Instagram. However, at that time it concerned only the territory of the United States, and now this restriction was widespread.
Thus, Microsoft has become another major company that has refused to advertise on Facebook-owned platforms. The boycott of Facebook is due to the dissatisfaction of companies over the lack of hateful publications control tools on the social network.
Dozens of large companies joined the Facebook boycott campaign, including Verizon Communications, Coca-Cola, Starbucks, and Unilever. Against this backdrop, companies fell 8.3%, the social network lost about $ 60 billion in market value, and the status of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg fell by more than $ 7 billion.
Unlike most of the companies that supported the boycott, Microsoft is more concerned not with the Facebook policy, but with the content next to which the advertising of the software giant’s products is displayed. Microsoft fears that the corporation’s ads may be showing along with inappropriate content, including hateful publications. A Microsoft spokesman confirmed the suspension of Facebook and Instagram postings, adding that it will last until August.
A Microsoft representative declined to comment further, but made it clear that the company did not intend to participate in the boycott of Facebook due to social network policies. Microsoft believes that the only way to achieve real long-term changes is through direct dialogue with media partners.
