Sri Lankan president announces parliament dissolution

The President of Sri Lanka Maitripala Sirisena made a decision to dissolve parliament from November 10 and to appoint general elections in January, writes The Economic Times.

The statement was made after the party of the current president was unable to promote its prime minister, not having a majority of seats.

After the incident, Maitripala Sirisena appointed Mahinda Rajapaksa to the post of head of government, with the help of which he hopes to secure re-election at the next election.
