In the first two quarters of 2018, about 3.6 million citizens of Ukraine came to Russia on private visits, 310 thousand from business, and over 13.5 thousand as tourists. There are more than 3.9 million guests from the neighboring country.

This is slightly less than last year (about 4.2 million), but Russia is still the leader in terms of international migration from Ukraine. According to Rosstat, from 2014 to 2017, 638.2 thousand residents of Nezalezhnaya moved to the Russian Federation.

According to the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Tatiana Bakhteeva, the majority of Ukrainians leave for Russia to work or to visit relatives. However, she believes that the citizens of Ukraine will continue to massively visit Russia in the future, whether Kiev wants it or not.

  • Today, according to UN estimates, 60% of citizens live below the poverty line. Many simply empty refrigerators, people do not know how to pay for housing and communal services, – said the parliamentarian. “There are also many mixed families, many Ukrainians have relatives living in Russian cities. Therefore, they try to travel to the neighboring country to their relatives.

Recall, since October 2015, Kiev has imposed a ban on flights for Russian airlines, in response to the Russian Federation imposed a ban on Ukrainian flights. Also, the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan proposed closing the railway communication between the countries, noting that Ukrainians in the Russian Federation “have nothing to do.”
