So scientists are trying to deal with global warming, which is getting out of control.
Scientists from Harvard in 2019 plan to conduct an experiment on cooling the Earth with chemical reagents. Stratospheric controlled experiment on perturbation is based on spraying a large amount of calcium carbonate – a special aerosol, which should “cover” the Earth from ultraviolet radiation, according to Nature.
Climatologists believe that the experiment can control the temperature on the planet within 0.5–1 degrees, which, with long-term use of this method, can “cool” the planet and slow global warming. The new method also has pitfalls – the dispersion of particles in the atmosphere can reduce the yield. In addition, scientists have not fully calculated the damage to the ozone layer, which has begun to gradually recover.
