Ukrainian border guards said that on the night of February 8/9, they observed “rays of a light purple color” appearing above the adjacent territory of the LC. According to Kiev, this indicates the use of laser weapons.
The military from the Combined Forces Operation (EP) reported that they recorded signs of the use of laser weapons by “Russian mercenaries” in the territory of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR). This is reported on the website of the State Border Service of Ukraine.
The report notes that the rays of a light purple color were recorded in the area KPVV (control point of entry – exit) “Stanitsa Luganskaya.” According to the military, laser beams appeared every two to three minutes.
“Starting from 22:00 on February 8 to 4:00 today (February 9 – RBC) in the area of KPVV” Stanitsa Luganskaya “border guards to cover the road corridor were fixed from the temporarily occupied territory of a light purple color with a frequency of every two or three minutes, “- said in a statement.
The ministry stressed that due to the peculiarities of the local relief, where the militia are stationed, and also because of the danger of using optical and thermal imaging devices, it was not possible to determine the exact locations of the rays.
The State Border Service recalled that this was not the first time that, according to Ukraine, laser weapons were used in the Donbas by the militia, according to Ukraine. So, according to the Ukrainian border guards, from 2016 to 2018, five servicemen of the Kramatorsk border detachment received eye damage due to lasers.
In May 2018, Ukraine’s Interior Minister Arsen Avakov accused Russia of using a new “laser weapon” that affects the retina. One of the injured military was awarded Avakov. “We are taking countermeasures now, but we state that the Russian aggressor is using against us a new weapon … We do not fully understand what is being used specifically, but we imagine that the military has instructions, we will put filters, instruments, put the appropriate points, ”he declared.
