Soil obtained by joining the Gdansk and Kaliningrad bays will be used as a building material.
Poland intends to build an artificial island in the Kaliningrad Bay to ensure security in the region. This was reported by the Polish edition of Onet with reference to the tender documentation of government structures.
According to the publication, the island will appear in the territorial waters of Poland. It will be created from the soil that will be received during the construction of the shipping channel through the Baltic Spit. The cost of the object will be about 880 million PLN (approximately 16 billion rubles).
According to the position of the Polish government, the need to connect the bays and the construction of the island is dictated by security considerations – thus Warsaw hopes to strengthen its defense capability.
