Putin proposed to increase the economic sovereignty of the EEU

In his opinion, this can be achieved by changing the system of mutual settlements and reducing dependence on foreign currencies.
Russian President Vladimir Putin invited the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union to think about the formation of a common settlement infrastructure.

“We propose to study the issue of creating a common settlement infrastructure in EurAsEC using modern financial technologies,” Putin said at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.

In his opinion, this will make the national payment systems of the EAEU countries more stable, reduce their dependence on foreign currencies.

“In the literal sense of the word, this is an increase in economic sovereignty,” the Russian leader added.

Earlier, Dmitry Medvedev called on the EEU countries to fight protectionism in world markets.
