The Ariane 5 rocket was successfully launched from the Kourou cosmodrome in French Guiana, which sent BepiColombo spacecraft to explore Mercury, said nasaspaceflight.com.
The spacecraft launched into space will reach the orbit of Mercury only after seven years, on the way having completed nine gravitational maneuvers near Venus, the Earth and Mercury. The magnetospheric orbiter and the planetary orbiter, as well as the transport module in orbit, will collect data on the composition, density, magnetic field and exosphere of the planet. Devices have a work resource of two Earth years or 8.2 years on Mercury.
The BepiColombo mission is organized jointly with the European Space Agency and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and named after the Italian mathematician and engineer Giuseppe “Bepi” Colombo.
On a similar rocket Ariane 5, a telescope will be launched into space. James Webb, who will replace the legendary Hubble.
