Soviet and Russian political figure, the last chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, Anatoly Lukyanov, died at the age of 89. About this on Wednesday, January 9, said in his Twitter account, the governor of the Smolensk region Alexei Ostrovsky .

Lukyanov was born on May 7, 1930 in Smolensk. In 1979 he became a doctor of legal sciences. From August 1991 to December 1992, Lukyanov was in custody in Matrosskaya Tishin in the case of the State Committee for the State of Emergency — he was accused of plotting to seize power and in excess of power. In 1994 he was amnestied.
