On December 29th, a child was born to a patient at Hacienda Healthcare Medical Center. Employees of the institution claim that they did not know about the pregnancy until childbirth began. After an accident that occurred more than 10 years ago, a woman is in a vegetative state and does not regain consciousness, so a child could only be conceived as a result of rape.
On Monday, January 7th, Hacienda Healthcare Executive Director Bill Timmons resigned. The board of directors of the medical center unanimously supported his decision.
The next day, the police received a court order authorizing the taking of DNA samples from all the men who worked at Hacienda Healthcare. The institution promises to assist in the investigation. “We will continue to work with the Phoenix police and any other investigative agencies to establish the facts about this extremely disturbing, but unprecedented situation,” the medical center said in a statement.
